If we have put our hope in Christ for this life only, we should be pitied more than anyone.

-1 Corinthians 15:19 (Holman)

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

We have a future hope that is set in the immutable word of God and His word is fixed, permanent, established and eternal and that hope began the moment we were born again when we were taken from the kingdom of darkness into the arms of our beloved Saviour – but it was planned in the heart of God in eternity past and it was cemented in heaven the moment Christ burst from the tomb and broke the power of sin and death and hell.

We have divine evidence of things not seen, which are being held by God, in trust for us, which is by grace through faith. Our hope not only embraces the peace of the Lord and His wonderful sufficiency in this life but in the life to come, unimaginable joy that is beyond human description. But until we reach our heavenly home we must march through the suffering, disappointments, trials and tribulation that this world affords for all its inhabitants – knowing that our hope is in Christ and is established forever,

But if hope in our established heavenly home and all the promises of God that accompany this scriptural truth were void we would indeed be of all people most to be pitied, for we would be condemned to the bitterest disappointment imaginable for our cherished hope of salvation. God is hated in this world and His Son was despised, rejected and persecuted by unregenerate man; the vast majority of the religious elite of His day and the forces of evil, and Christ warned us that because they hated Him we too will be hated throughout our earthly life. And this holds as true today as it has for Christians down through the centuries who have held fast to the truth of the whole of Scripture. We all are hated, despised, rejected and persecuted by pagan people, carnal Christians and the principalities and powers in satan’s current world system.

But our hope is not for this world, nor must it ever be – but rather we have an eternal hope that was planned in the heart of God, is firmly set in His immutable word, and was cemented in heaven the moment Christ burst from the tomb and broke the power of sin and death and hell in the lives of all who believe on the name of the Lord Jesus.

My Prayer

Loving Father, thank You that my hope is in Christ and His finished work, and that through time in this life and into the eternal ages to come, He is my peace, my sufficiency and my everlasting hope, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN
