…but thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:57 (NIV)
Thoughts on Today’s Verse
When Christ shouted “It Is Finished” He alone paid the full price for our sins, and there is now no condemnation to all who believe on His name. When Christ burst forth from the sealed tomb, the angels joyfully proclaimed, “He is Risen”. Our resurrected Saviour broke the power of death and hell forever, and the enemy of man’s soul became the defeated adversary, bound for the lake of fire.
Christ was fully identified with sinful man when He was made the one and only offering for sin on Calvary’s cross.. and as His blood-bought children, we are identified with Christ’s finished work. Christ’s triumphant victory over sin, death and Satan, becomes our triumphant victory too.. and the filthy rags of our old life in Adam are replaced with the glorious garment of righteousness, which are imputed to us because of our new life in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.
It was Christ Who gained a triumphant victory on the cross – and in Him we too can claim His victory over sin and death.. the grave and hell. The sting of death has been removed for all who trust in His name.. and the icy grave has been robbed of its victory by the sacrificial death and glorious resurrection of our God and Saviour.
It was Adam’s rebellion against God’s clear command and his sinful act in the beautiful garden that caused the icy finger of death to descend upon all humanity. Sin entered into the world by one man, and because of sin – death passed onto all men for all are sinners and in need of salvation.
And so just as one offence resulted in condemnation for everyone, so one glorious act of righteousness results in justification and life for all – for all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as through one man’s disobedience many people were made sinners, so also through one Man’s obedience many people will be made righteous
Surely we will be shouting of the triumphant victory throughout the eternal ages to come, “thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Loving Father, how much I love You and praise Your name for ever and ever. I am not worthy to pick up the crumbs under Your table, and yet You have raised me up and seated me together with Christ Jesus in heavenly places – by sending Your only begotten Son to pay the incredible price for my sin and to break the power of death in my life. I praise Your name for ever and ever. All glory and honour and might and majesty be Yours for ever and ever. AMEN
