What Does 1 Corinthians 6:20 Mean?

For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

1 Corinthians 6:20(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Not only has God created us but He has redeemed us. We not only belong to the Lord because He formed and fashioned us out of the dust of the earth, but we are His precious possession for a second reason. We have been bought with a price: the precious blood of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. And so we are challenged by Paul to: "Glorify God in our body."

Not only do we belong to the Lord by means of creation, but also because we have been purchased for an enormous price, we have been redeemed by God from the subtle kingdom of darkness. God not only created us but He has also purchased us. He owns us because He also loves us.

Christ died for the sins of the whole world so that whosoever believes on Him would not perish but have everlasting life. And all who trust the Lord Jesus for salvation belong to God by right of creation and by right of ownership: "For were bought with a price," redeemed from the pit of hell by the blood of the Lamb.

The precious blood of the sinless Son of God was shed at Calvary as the purchase price for all who would one day trust in Him as Saviour. God's ownerships of all believers dates back to that pivotal day in history when Christ cried out with a jubilant shout, "IT IS FINISHED"

We belong to God for we are His own purchased possession, which is a position of great honour and tremendous responsibility. Our spirit, soul, and body belongs to the Lord, and we are no longer slaves to sin for He paid a high price to buy us back from the slave-market of sin. How important therefore to glorify God in our actions, attitudes, words, and bodies.

We can no longer think of our body as our own, where we can follow our own selfish fancies, our carnal desires, and our worldly lusts, for our body, soul, and spirit belongs to the Lord. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, for we are in-dwelt by the Spirit of God and our body belongs to Him. The Lord Jesus created us and He purchased us with His own blood. Let us therefore glorify God in all we are and in all we do.

My Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You not only created me, but have purchased me as Your own precious possession. The price to You was so costly, I will never be able to comprehend it. Thank You that Jesus shed His life blood to purchase me back from the slave market of sin. I pray that I may glorify You in body, soul, and spirit, from this day forward. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
