What Does 1 John 5:3 Mean?

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.

1 John 5:3(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The facts of the Christian life are so simple that a little child can understand the good news of the gospel of grace, which is set out in Scripture. John tells us that whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ (the promised Messiah of Israel), is born of God.

John tells us that Christ Jesus is the eternal Son of God Who was made flesh and dwelt among us. He lived a sinless life and died willingly on the Cross to pay the price of the sins of humanity so that whosoever believes on Him would not perish but have everlasting life.

Scripture tells us we were born into this world spiritually dead and estranged from God because the first man sinned. And we inherit his fallen nature, making us spiritually dead and separating us from God forever. But in His grace, God ordered that sinful man could be made spiritually alive, by faith.

By faith we are united with the Christ and identified with Him. It is only by faith in Christ that we are born of God, born of the Spirit, born from above, born spiritually and positioned in Him.

The benefits of being born of God are staggering, and they are free to all who believe that Jesus is the Christ.

Let us reflect on the enormity of our heavenly position and eternal privileges that we have received by the incredible grace of God, and wonder.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that by believing in Christ, I am born of God and have received by grace, the privileges, and position of being Your child. Thank You for Your wise commandments which are not meant to be burdensome for me, but which enable me to live a full and fruitful life. May I live my life to honour You. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
