What Does 1 Thessalonians 5:19 Mean?

Do not quench the Spirit;

1 Thessalonians 5:19(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Although the heavens declare the glory of God and creation shouts abroad the wonders of His name, only the Word of God gives us a full and final revelation of the Father, in the face of Jesus Christ. And we discover that by faith in Christ's sacrifice on the Cross, the Holy Spirit of God does many wonderful things in our hearts.

We are born from above, regenerated, sealed, adopted, baptised into the Body of Christ, and permanently in-dwelt by the Holy Spirit Himself, and He calls us to walk in spirit and truth and to live godly in Christ Jesus.

That call to righteousness and truth, godliness and grace, should be the earnest desire of all who have been saved from slavery to sin and Satan, and by grace have been transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God's dear Son.

We can choose to yield to the Spirit's purifying work in our lives and to willingly submit to His refining fire cleansing our hearts OR we can quench the glorious work that He seeks to carry out in each of our lives and live a defeated Christian life.

Let us not quench the purifying work of the Spirit in our lives, but rather let us surrender in humility of heart and permit Him to guide us into all truth, through the washing of the water with the Word of God, for all Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, purify my heart by the power of Your Holy Spirit, and make me willing to submit in all things to His beautiful, refining work in my life. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
