What Does 2 Peter 2:3 Mean?

and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

2 Peter 2:3(NASB)

Verse of the Day

It was once said that, "the devil is never more satanic than when he carries a Bible," and the Scriptures give multiple warnings to beware of false prophets and flawed teachers with their counterfeit gospel, their doctrines of demons, and a different 'Jesus', which too often results from their fraudulent greed.

Paul warns that because of their greed, these false teachers will exploit the flock of God with made-up stories, cunning arguments, and blatant lies, in order to line their own pockets at the spiritual expense of their congregation - but they will not go unpunished. Indeed, they will be judged by God for their ungodly activities.

Paul warns that, "their judgment, from long ago is not idle..."  for although it appears that many such teachers have been getting away with their satanic deception for a very long time and have led many astray with their unscriptural teachings... they are marked out by God for condemnation - which will, one day, fall on their heads and they will NOT escape.

It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God. And although they may consider that they are fooling the Lord Who bought them, as well as deceiving their doting followers, the Bible tells us that, "their destruction is not asleep," in other words, God is not oblivious to their cunning ways. He is not unaware of their deception and will, one day, punish them for the exploitation of their followers - and they will receive their 'just deserts'.

We have the assurance from Scripture that those who distort the Word of God for personal power and monetary gain, and who willingly deceive the people of God with false teachings and unscriptural doctrine, WILL receive their due reward.

May we who have been saved by grace through faith in Christ, study to show ourselves approved unto God, so that we be able to discern what is false and identify those that are distorting the Word of God... so that we may be in a position to help to warn others who may have been deceived by their flattering words and ungodly ways - and point the way to Christ.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus Who died on the Cross, so that by faith in Him we might be saved from the wrath of God, which is demanded for humanities sinfulness. Keep me alert to any false teachings and give me discernment to identify and expose those that seek to exploit the flock of God. In Your grace I pray that many who have been indoctrinated with these satanic lies, would come to a knowledge of the truth. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.
