Because of Your promise, and according to Your own heart, You have brought about all this greatness, to make Your servant know it.  Therefore You are great, O LORD God. For there is none like You, and there is no God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears

-2 Samuel 7:21-22 (ESV)

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

What heartfelt devotion towards God is displayed here, Whose glory and greatness, might, majesty and power so starkly contrasts with the lowly servant who is proclaiming his rapt adoration.  Great is the Lord Who does great things for His servants and great is the Lord Whose glorious character and attributes are proclaimed abroad, throughout the extremity of the heavens by creation itself, and within the pages of sacred scripture. Both the performance and the promises of God are the subject of David’s high acclaim and God’s great splendour is further revealed in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the final revelation of the greatness of God – to us who are His creatures.

My Prayer

Father, we bow in reverence before You, and praise You in hushed whispers, because you have stooped down to the children of men and lifted us up and seated us together with Christ, in heavenly places.  We are not worthy to gather the crumbs under Your table for You are great and Your glory reaches into the extremity of the universe, and yet in love You sought us and made us accepted in the Beloved. Thank you Father, in Jesus name. AMEN
