Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in all ways. The Lord be with you all.
-2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ASB)
Thoughts on Today’s Verse
From the dawn of mankind, there is probably nothing that has been more sought after in this world at war, than peace. Nations have fought bitter wars for peace and lives have been lost in a vain pursuit of peace, but peace offered by this world’s system is a false, fragile, imperfect, pseudo-peace that leaves a hungry heart and a disappointed soul. The God of Peace started to unveil Himself as our Peace to the frightened Gideon and He expanded this understanding to David the shepherd-king, who discovered His Lord was One that gently led him beside still waters.
Paul understood that the shed blood of the holy Lamb of God, that great Shepherd of the sheep, knocked down the wall of partition and tore the curtain of separation from top to bottom, so that we who believe on Him are comforted by our great God of peace. And in the fullness of time He sent the Prince of Peace to be born of a virgin in dishonour and shame, so that at the appointed time He would be exulted as …. Lord of Peace.
It is the Lord of Peace Himself that promised to leave His own Peace with His confused disciples and this same assurance is given to all His children who are seeking to serve the Lord of Peace, Himself, with all their hearts in the world at war. His promise of peace is not the peace of this world, but a peace that bring comfort and rest, refreshment and a perfect inner peace that transcends humanity’s comprehension – both now and for evermore, amen.
We praise You with all our hearts for Your indwelling Spirit of Peace. May we shed abroad Your peace in our lives to a hurting world that has so lost its direction in the world’s vain pursuit of a pseudo-peace that can never satisify, in Jesus name we pray, AMEN.
