What Does 2 Timothy 3:17 Mean?

so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:17(HCSB)

Verse of the Day

In a world where satanic deception, doctrines of demons, and multitudes of false teachers, apostles, prophets, and priests seek to shipwreck the faith of Christians and render their lives fruitless, the inspired and inerrant Word of God is profitable for sound doctrine, godly correction, spiritual growth, and instruction in righteousness.

The Bible cannot be compared with any other book or so-called 'holy writings' or stimulating publication, for Scripture alone is breathed out from the heart of God Himself. The Word of God is outside of time and space and inspired by the uncreated Creator. Every other writing or work lacks His definitive authority and godly inspiration and is forged through the limited wisdom of man, however stimulating or motivating it may be to the reader.

The heavens may declare the glory of God, their voice may echo throughout all the earth, and their words be shouted to the end of the world, but only the God-breathed Scriptures communicate God's heart of love to a world of lost sinners.

Scripture alone has the word of life and light, of hope and salvation. Only the God-breathed Bible is profitable for sound doctrine, godly correction, spiritual growth, and instruction in righteousness in order that the man or woman who has been saved by grace through faith, may be thoroughly equipped for every good work that God has prepared for them to do.

God has furnished us with godly instruction on how to mature in the faith and to grow in grace, and it is recorded in His Word. We have been adequately furnished to live our life as God intended man to live from the beginning - in total dependence upon Him and not reliant on self- merit or works of the flesh.

It is by grace that we have been saved and not of works. It is by grace that we are to live in humble dependence upon Christ so that we may be transformed from childhood to manhood, from spiritual immaturity to spiritual maturity.

It is by grace that every man and woman who has been redeemed by the blood the Lamb has all that is profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness in order to mature in the faith and grow in grace. And it is communicated to us, from the Lord, in the Word of God.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me so much that You sent the Lord Jesus to die for me and to pay the price for my sins. Thank You that He rose again and lives within my body. Thank You that in Your God-breathed Word, I have all that I need to equip me to live my life as You intended, in total dependence on You, by grace through faith. Protect me from satanic deception, doctrines of demons, and false teachers, and help me to study to show myself approved so that I may be thoroughly equipped for every good work, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
