Verse of the Day

The everlasting story of redemption began to be implemented in the garden with the fall of man. The wonderful story of redemption is picked up by Peter following the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of the Lord Jesus - when the promised Holy Spirit was sent from heaven to indwell and empower all who believe.

The same cowardly men who had fled from Gethsemane and denied their Lord only 50 days earlier were suddenly filled with the Spirit, baptized into the body of Christ and began proclaiming the wonderful works of God to all who were present in Jerusalem for that feast of Pentecost.

And reminding them of God's redemptive plan which was recorded in the holy Scriptures.. Peter preached an inspired message to the men of Israel. He rehearsed the story of redemption, reminding them of God's promise to send a Saviour. He recalled the brutal happenings at Calvary .. where the holy one of Israel was killed.. and rejoiced because of all that occurred at Christ's resurrection, ascension, glorification and exaltation to the right hand of God.

And having laid out the everlasting story of redemption, which had just culminated in Israel's rejection of the Holy One of Israel.. Peter's blistering accusation followed: therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, Whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

The convicting power of the Holy Spirit was so mighty on that day, that 3000 people were cut to the heart when they realised the severity of their sinful actions - so much so that many cried out to Peter and the rest of the Apostles, 'Brethren, what are we to do?'

Israel was God's chosen people. Israel had been given the holy scriptures and the ordinances of God and Israel was the nation through Whom God's promised Deliverer was to be born - and now they discovered that Israel had crucified their long awaited Lord and God's promised Messiah. No wonder they called out: 'Brethren, what are we to do?' But by God's grace Peter was to tell the men of Israel the next chapter in God's eternal plan of salvation and many repented of their sins and found life in Christ Jesus their Saviour.

God's everlasting story of redemption is still as exciting, potent, powerful and precious today as it was on that first day of Pentecost. For the soul that sins shall die - but the soul that turns from their sins by trusting in Christ Jesus for the remission of sin - shall live.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Your mercy is new every morning and that Your faithfulness to Jew and Gentile alike is steadfast and sure. Thank You that You are a God Who forgives the sins of those.. who are convicted of our need of Salvation by the work of the Holy Spirit - and thank You that there is nothing so bad in my life that You cannot and will not forgive - by grace through faith in Christ my Saviour, in Whose name I pray, AMEN
