We proclaim Him, warning and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
Colossians 1:28 (HCSB)
Thoughts on Today’s Verse
While incarcerated in prison, Paul lifted up his heart in earnest prayer for the Colossian Christians – for spiritual intelligence, for practical obedience, for moral excellence and that Christ may be crowned Lord of all in their lives – so that they might become complete in Him and attain unto spiritual maturity.
He reminds us that Christ is our Saviour Who died to redeem us from the punishment of sin and rose again to live in us, saving us from the power of sin in our lives. He reminds us that Christ is the Creator Who was and is and is to come and he reminds us that all things exist for Him and that all things are held together by Him.
Paul also reminds us that Christ is the head of the church, beloved of the Father and in Whom dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.. and he reminds us that we are positioned in Christ and one with Him – and he reminds us again that God’s goal for all his children, is that we become just like Christ.
Despite being in prison it was Paul’s delight to preach and proclaim the glorious gospel of grace and the wonderful truth of the Lord Jesus Christ, for as God’s chosen apostle to the gentile, he wanted to warn us to live godly in Christ Jesus, to admonish us to grow in grace, to encourage us to walk in spirit and truth and to teach us the unsearchable riches of God, which have been bestowed in great measure upon the church – so that we might become spiritually mature, practically obedient, morally excellent – and walk in humble submission and utter dependece upon our God – until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.
Heavenly Father, thank You for all the truths that are contained in Your word. Help me to read, mark, learn, inwardly digest and daily apply all that I am taught, so that I may grow in grace and in a knowledge of the Lord Jesus, to Your praise and glory, AMEN
