What Does Deuteronomy 29:29 Mean?

"The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.

Deuteronomy 29:29(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The Lord God Almighty is the all-knowing, infinite, and eternal Creator. We are His limited and finite creation, and we need to understand that there are certain things that have been forbidden for us to look into. God in His grace has given us His Word and has shared many of His mysteries with us through His prophets, and yet there is a bank of knowledge and information which is not permitted for us to share in.

There are secret things that belong to the Lord our God alone, and we are not to try to pry open the door of His understanding or seek to expose the hidden things of the future. However, in His grace, He has revealed much to us and to our children forever, and our responsibility is to search out the deep things of God that He has hidden in His Word and to teach these truths to our children and grandchildren. We should seek to become a diligent student of His Word and search out the truth that God in His grace has given to us.

God has revealed all that we need to know in the Scriptures and it is unnecessary and impudent for us to try to look into the things that do not concern us. Let us rather study His Word to show ourselves approved to God.

"It is the glory of God to conceal a thing." It is the right of the omnipotent, omnipresent, everlasting God to conceal anything He chooses to. But it is also: "The honour of kings to search out a matter," and there are a myriad of blessings for those who choose to search out the things of God.

As we search the Scriptures with the leading of the Holy Spirit Who will guide us into all truth, our understanding of God will grow, our love for our Redeemer will deepen, and our faith will be strengthened. We will never be shown all the secret things that belong to the Lord in this life, but we will be shown exactly what we need at the right time and in the right way. Therefore, let us seek to be dedicated students and willing workers who do not need to be ashamed at His coming as we read, mark, learn, inwardly digest, and appropriate the teaching that are in His holy Word of truth.

My Prayer

Loving Father, thank You for revealing Your marvellous plan of salvation to us and to our children. Thank You for showing us all the wisdom, knowledge, and grace that I see in the lovely face of Jesus. Help me to be a diligent student of Your Word, and may my children, grandchildren, and all those that I love, follow in this path of wisdom and grace. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
