Does the Bible Teach that Jesus is coming again?
Most believers would agree that Jesus coming to earth as a Child was the most monumental event in human history. Isaiah 9:6 calls this “Child” Mighty God and Everlasting Father. So significant was this divine I visitation that it became a world-wide dating system. Although the Old Testament had well over 200 prophecies concerning Christ’s coming to earth, many of the Jews of that day didn’t recognize their own Messiah. They missed His First Coming because they misunderstood the Scriptures about His setting up His Kingdom on earth. They didn’t recognize that the Bible predicts a Second Coming. Notice how Isaiah prophesies Jesus’ First and Second Comings in one universe.
For unto us a Child is bom, Unto us a Son is given; An the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
In the beginning of this verse we see Jesus coming as a ”Child” and “Son” (First Coming); and the second part as “Mighty God” and “Prince of Peace” to set up His kingdom on earth (Second Coming).
In a similar way the Second Coming of Christ is actually two separate events. The first event is the Rapture where Jesus is coming “for Hjs own.” This means that at a certain point in time Jesus will uniquely come to take living Christians with Him to heaven – 1 Thessalom. ans 4-5.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:3
Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. Matthew 24:42
The second event is what is commonly called the if Second Coming. This is when Jesus comes to earth I from heaven “with His own” on white horses to set up His Millennial Kingdom – Revelation 19:11.
