What Does Ephesians 4:21 Mean?

if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus,

Ephesians 4:21(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Paul frequently contrasts what we were before we were Christians, to what we have become since we first believed. He reminds us that although we were children of darkness, we are now children of light. Although we were dead in our sins, we are now alive in Christ.

Because we were taught the mystery of the gospel and believed in Christ Jesus as our Saviour, our position in Christ and our eternal inheritance is secured for us in heaven, and we are called to walk worthy of our calling, in humility of heart, unity of spirit, and as children of the light.

Christ is the beginning, and He is the end of our faith. He is the sphere and the circumference of our lives. All that we have learned from the inspired Scriptures about Jesus is in accordance with the truth, for we have been given the Word of truth and we have received the indwelling Spirit of truth, Who was sent to guide us into the Way of truth.

If we have believed the glorious gospel of grace and been taught in accordance with the God-breathed Scripture, then we KNOW that Christ is the truth as well as our life and our light. He is our hope, and He alone is our salvation.

But from the garden of Eden, when he whispered lies into Eve's ear, Satan has been trying to deceive mankind with lies and false accusations. He prowls around as a roaring lion seeking someone to devour, and lies and deceit are highly favoured tools that he uses. And although he "deceives the whole world,we do not need to be numbered with those deceived by him.

In order to not be deceived by the father of lies, we need to be grounded in the truth, walk in the truth, and built up in the truth. And we know the Truth is not a concept, but a Person, our precious Saviour, Jesus Christ. Not only this, but we have the Holy Spirit - the Spirit of Truth - guiding us into all truth.

As we travel through life, let us stand firm on the Word of truth, the Rock of our salvation, Jesus Christ Who told us: "I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life."

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word of truth and for Your indwelling Spirit of truth. Thank You for searching me out and drawing me into the way of truth and for those You have used to teach me Your Word. Thank You, Father, for the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the Truth. Help me to live in a way that is honouring to Him. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
