What Does Exodus 3:12 Mean?

And He said, "Certainly I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God at this mountain."

Exodus 3:12(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Having spent 40 years since leaving Egypt, Moses, who had been raised in Egyptian palaces and who formerly enjoyed all the benefits the world could offer, had become insignificant in his own eyes and felt insufficient for the work that God had called him to do. God ordained that Moses would bring His people Israel out of Egypt, and yet Moses felt ill-equipped to fulfil this mighty task. HOWEVER, God in His grace reminded Moses of an eternal truth - a promise to all His children - "I certainly will be with you."

God's grace was sufficient for Moses to fulfil the task to which he had been called, just as His grace is sufficient for the task that God has called each of His children to do. God's grace is sufficient to fulfil the task he has designed for you, just as he is sufficient to fulfil the work that He has called me to do as well.

God in His grace, also promised to provide Moses with evidence that His Word was true and that He was a faithful God: "When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God at this mountain."

During the age of Israel God gave many 'signs' to His people that He is a God that is faithful to His Word, for we read: "The Jews require a SIGN." God's faithfulness to His Word has not changed now that we are in the Church age. But the way that He deals with His Church, which is the Body of Christ, is different from the way that God dealt with His people Israel, in the age of Law.

They were given signs at the birth of their nation through Moses and Joshua and when they were about to be cut off as an unfruitful and unrepentant nation, more signs were give through Elijah, Elisha, and finally through the Lord Jesus.

We in the Church are to live by faith and NOT by sight or by signs, for we NOW have the indwelling Holy Spirit Who not only has certainly promised to be WITH US but also to be IN US. He has promised to lead and guide, to empower and comfort, to strengthen, govern, and guide us into all truth.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are not only with me, but dwelling within me in the Person of the Holy Spirit. Thank You that Your grace is sufficient for all that You have called me to do. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
