What Does Galatians 6:9 Mean?

Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.

Galatians 6:9(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The simple gospel of grace is to come to Christ and believe, for we are saved by grace alone and not by doing good works, lest any man should boast. But once we do believe and are saved, we should then become a true disciple and take up our cross and follow after Jesus, for this is God's desire for all His children. If we are to truly grow in grace and mature in the faith, we are to do the good works that God has already prepared for us to do. If we are to mature in the faith and press on to the goal of our calling, we ought to live our lives as unto the Lord and "not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not grow weary."

There is no cost at all for us in salvation, for we were saved at Christ's expense. He did it all. However, if we choose to continue to become a true disciple of the Lord, then under the influence and power of the Holy Spirit, we are to abound in the good works which will flow from our God-given Christian grace. And we shall reap a reward in heaven that shall not pass away.

There are two types of sowing in the Christian life, just as there are two types of Christians. The spiritual believer sows his life unto the Spirit by knowing Christ, fellowshiping in His suffering, and pressing on to the end, and in so doing will reap a good and fruitful harvest that is well-pleasing to the Lord. The carnal believer chooses not to die to self and does not take up his cross daily and will therefore sow his life as unto his own flesh, resulting in him losing heart and suffering loss.

The simple gospel of grace requires no effort, for we are saved by grace simply through faith in Christ Jesus. But living our Christian life as unto the Lord requires patient endurance as we press on, day by day, in the footsteps of our Saviour to the goal of our calling, which is to be conformed into the image of Christ. This takes effort and courage which only comes from the Spirit of God, but in so doing we are obeying the Lord as we press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

So let us keep on keeping on, and "let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary."

My Prayer

Loving Father, I want to press on in my Christian life, to become more and more like the Lord Jesus. I know that it will require me to put my hand to the plough and press on, with the patient endurance that only comes from You. I pray that I may not lose heart or grow weary in doing the good works that You have prepared for me to do. Thank You that in due time I may reap a fruitful reward, if I do not give up. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
