Verse of the Day

During the six days of creation, we discover in Genesis chapter one that God made man in His own image and likeness, with a mind to think, emotions to feel, and a will to make choices. The man that God created was destined to rule and reign as His appointed regent over all the whole earth, in total dependence upon his God and in willing submission to his gracious Creator.

And so we read that having spoken the heaven and the earth into existence: "The LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life - and man became a living being."

But this creation account in the second chapter of Genesis is not an alternative creation story or a creation 'myth' as so many falsely claim, but rather we discover in chapter two the colourful and intricate detail that the Lord added to His first great brushstrokes of creation in Genesis chapter one. This passage details the meticulous care and attention that God afforded in the unique creation of mankind, made in the image and likeness of his God.

God formed and fashioned the world to be the ideal environment for His appointed king, and having spoken the universe into existence, the Lord God took a handful of His creation and formed and fashioned the dust of the earth into a man. Adam was skilfully fashioned and tenderly formed by his Creator God into an exquisite clay vessel. Finally, the breath of God was breathed into the nostrils the first man: "And Adam became a living being."

"And God saw all that He had made, and it was very good."

It was the very breath of the Almighty Creator Himself that was breathed into the lifeless clay form that God Himself fashioned. It was the life-breath of God that breathed His own life into the lifeless body of Adam. And it is the same Holy Spirit that gives re-birth to the one that trusts Christ as Saviour: "Ye must be born again."

We are all born dead in trespasses and sins, but when we recognise our sinfulness and our need of a Saviour, and when we trust in the death, burial, and Resurrection of our Kinsman-Redeemer, the Holy Spirit breathes into our beings the very life of our living and resurrected Saviour - and we become a new creation in Christ.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are my great and mighty Creator and that You loved me so much that You sent Your only begotten Son to be the propitiation for my sins. Thank You that when I trusted in Jesus for salvation, I received abundant, eternal life, the life of Christ Jesus my Lord within so that in Him I may live, and move, and have my being.
