A Walk

Yesterday, I went for a walk with my Friend. We set out on a familiar little path – an old deserted railroad track, which was overshadowed by green and luscious vegetation and verdant foliage. Then we strolled back home along the towpath of the old Bridgewater Canal – built in 1761.. dripping with weeping willow trees.. a flight of water-birds.. a family of goslings – a dipping heron…

Close Communion

We sometimes walked in silence and sometimes we just touched spirits.. Spirit to spirit communion. We stopped to exchange a few meaningful moments and just enjoy being together. We walked and talked and bathed in the closeness of the moment, and along the way He gave me little tokens of His love for me… first some tiny, wild strawberries, a few red raspberries (protected by the nettles) .. and finally as I turned to walk home – a wild, rambling rose (red and golden) They say if you have one truly intimate soul-mate, then you are blessed indeed. Most claim to have myriads of friends, but I sometimes wonder… for a true friend – a kindred spirit – a trusted confidante is rare indeed.. but there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother..Prov.18:24

Joy of Fellowship

It is a blessed thing indeed to have a friend that is always at my side – a companion who’s always there. It is a rare and beautiful thing to have a soul-mate  who understands me..  a confidant who knows my hopes and understands my fears – a kindred spirit who commends my endeavours,  however mean or foolish they are! What a blessing to have a bosom friend who will gently point out my faults, and yet accept my outbursts – a close confidant, who sympathises my aspiration and who accepts me for who I am – despite my faults, foibles and foolishness. What a joy to have a friend with such deep, understanding of all my failings and disappointments – someone with whom I can be open and feel no restraint and yet know I am not condemned. A friend who will not drop me, when a more interesting person comes along…

Comfort of Christ

Yesterday I went for a walk with my Friend and He joined me on the way. I am so thankful that I have Christ as my friend – my dear, gentle, kindly, comforting friend and I am so blessed that He chose to care for me.. Not out of a sense of duty or responsibility. nor even to fulfil some scriptural command (like caring for widows and orphans and the like.. or like being kind one to another – that sort of thing – not just fulfilling a scriptural command) – but just because it is His heart’s desire… just because He is my friend, and He cares for me.. just because He  loves me and chose me to be His friend…

Henry Moorhouse

There is an uncertainty about every friendship in this world, but there is one sure friendship. One friend that sticketh, even Christ. In my early Christian experience I was taught that I was to stick to Christ, that I was to hold on and not let go. That was good; but there was something that I have found out since – and it is that Christ sticks to me. He will never forsake me, neither shall anyone be able to pluck me out of His hands.

What a Friend we have in Jesus

What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O  what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield you; you will find a solace there.

Blessed Saviour, Thou hast promised – Thou wilt all our burdens bear,
May we ever, Lord, be bring
ing  all to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.
