What Does Hebrews 1:7 Mean?

And of the angels He says, "WHO MAKES HIS ANGELS WINDS, AND HIS MINISTERS A FLAME OF FIRE."

Hebrews 1:7(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The world today is becoming obsessed with angels, the supernatural, and the spirit world, which is being linked to a false spirituality that is embraced by a world but has rejected the true and living God. This false spirituality presents an unbiblical representation of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

But a considerable portion of the epistle to the Hebrews presents the insignificance of their role in comparison with Christ. The importance and authority of every class of angelic being is totally eclipsed by the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal and only begotten Son of God.

Angels certainly played a significant role in the Old Testament. They assisted in the giving of the Law to Israel and were sometimes sent as messengers from God to selected prophets (whom He used as instruments to provide a progressive revelation of His redemptive plan to humanity).

Angels are God's servants. They are instruments of God to mete out both blessings and judgement. They are ministering spirits who serve Him day and night, in order to forward His redemptive programme for all who are to inherit salvation.

This role of angels may sound impressive to the spiritually starving race of fallen men (and sadly to some ignorant and deceived believers in Christ as well), but lest we start to become obsessed with angels, the supernatural, and the invisible realm of spiritual beings (whether good or evil), let us remember that God chose to redeem fallen man and not fallen angels.

Yes, God in His mercy chose to redeem MAN. Let us remember that Christ Himself was sent from heaven to take on the form of a man, and be born into the human race so that His shed human blood would pay the price of humanity's sin. And anyone in the human race who believe on Him will not perish but have everlasting life.

The Lord Jesus Christ - eternal Son of God - Sovereign Creator of the universe, became the sinless Son of Man in order to qualify Himself to become our Kinsman-Redeemer.

The Lord Jesus Christ is far superior to the angels that He created. The pronouncement of Christ's immeasurable superiority rings loud and clear in the inspired Scriptures where we read: "But of the Son He says, 'YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER, THE SCEPTER OF RIGHTEOUSNESS IS THE SCEPTER OF YOUR KINGDOM.'"

How dare we in this age and generation stoop to such outrageous practices where man becomes obsessed with angels, the supernatural, a false spirituality and the invisible realm, instead of glorifying their Creator and worshipping His only begotten Son Who gave His life as a ransom for many.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You sending the Lord Jesus to be Your full and final revelation to mankind. Thank You for making man in Your own image and likeness and for Your wonderful plan of salvation, where despite our faults and failure, You sent Your only begotten Son to become a Man and to die on the Cross for the sin of the world. Thank You that Your throne is established in righteousness and justice, and for giving us an understanding of the angelic realm - whom You use as ministering spirits to dispatch both blessings and judgements on the children of men. To You be praise and glory, in Jesus' name, AMEN.
