The new and living way that He opened for us through the curtain (that is, through His flesh)”

-Hebrews 10:20 (NIV)

Hebrews 10:20

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

From the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour and about the ninth hour… Jesus yielded up His spirit and behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom and the earth shook, and the rocks were split. What a dramatic scene. Dark blackness covered the earth as our Saviour, was cursed of God and became sin for us – and the brimming bowl of the wrath of God was poured out over Christ – for your sake and for mine.

That torn curtain in the holy of holies was the dramatic end of the earthly order of priests – for as both High Priest and Sacrifice, Jesus offered Himself as The Prefect, Innocent Sin-Offering to the most High God – Behold, the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world – and by His death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain of His flesh, into the Most Holy Place – for those who believe. Destroy this Temple and I will raise it in up in three days were the words of Christ – but He spoke of the Temple that was His body

The curtain in the Jewish Temple, which represented the separation of incurably sinful man from eternally Perfect God, was torn from the top to the bottom – ripped asunder from heaven to the earth – demonstrating that the finished work of Christ Jesus was accepted and sufficient. The torn flesh of Christ’s body was sufficient to tear in twain the veil of the Temple forever, and by His death – as Son of God and Son of Man – He opened up for us the new and living way. Christ opened for us that one and only way to the Father-  through the curtain, that is His flesh – to Him be praise and glory for ever and ever, amen

My Prayer

Loving Father, thank You for giving Your only Begotten Son to tear down the wall of separation between Your perfection and my sinfulness. Thank You that by His death I have been proclaimed righteous and dressed in His eternal righteousness, to Whom be all honour and glory, in Christ’s name I pray, AMEN
