What Does Hebrews 10:5 Mean?

Hebrews 10:5(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The eternal Son of God was sent from His heavenly home into a fallen world by God the Father, to be born as the perfect Son of Man. Though Mary was a virgin, chosen of God to be the mother of His only begotten Son, she was nonetheless a sinner and equally in need of a Saviour, as is every member of fallen humanity.

And so we read that when Christ came into the world, we hear Him speaking to His Father: "Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me." The sacrifices of bulls and goats could never appease a holy God, for the wages of sin is death, and only a perfect Man Who was willing to take the punishment upon Himself, could die in the place of sinners.

And so, for a time, the blood of bulls and goats covered the sins of His people until the appointed time when Christ, the perfect Sacrifice, would be sent into the world to become the One and only Sacrifice for sin.

The eternal, immortal, invisible Son of God needed to be clothed in sinless human flesh, and so in the womb of young Mary, a body was prepared for our Lord. For thirty-three years, the eternal Son of God lived a perfect life as Jesus of Nazareth, dwelling in a perfect, sinless body that had been kept untainted from the inherent sin nature that is passed from father to son; the fallen sin nature that is the portion of all who are born in the image and likeness of Adam.

God desires no sacrifices or offerings from man, only a heart that believes in His Son, the one and only Sacrifice for the sin of the whole world.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Christ Jesus into the world to be born a perfect man. He alone has paid the price for my sins. Thank You for His perfect life, lived in His perfect body so that He could die the perfect death and become my risen Saviour. Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.
