What Does Isaiah 32:2 Mean?

Each will be like a refuge from the wind And a shelter from the storm, Like streams of water in a dry country, Like the shade of a huge rock in a parched land.

Isaiah 32:2(NASB)

Verse of the Day

From the fall of man in Genesis... to God's promise of restoration in Malachi, we see the unfolding story of God's wonderful redemptive plan in Old Testament Scriptures.

From the Seed of the woman with its promise of salvation... to God's own little 'book of remembrance,' and His pledge to judge the world in righteousness, the focus of our attention throughout the Old Testament Scripture is always centred on Christ, the hope of Israel Who will save His people from their sins - by faith.

God is a God of mercy and love, but He is also holy and righteous. God is a God of justice and righteousness as well as a God of mercy and love. God cannot look upon sin, for He is holy. Sin must, therefore, be punished... and so we see in Isaiah's prophetic writings, numerous examples of tribes and nations, cities and all peoples, being warned of coming devastation and catastrophic ruin, before being promised a time of justice and righteousness which will spring forth when Christ is heralded as the coming Shepherd of Israel - and acknowledged as the eternal King of righteousness.

God's judgement on the sin of individual believers in this dispensation of grace, was poured out on Christ on our behalf, at Calvary. Jesus died in our place, was buried, and rose again, according to the Scriptures. He broke the power of sin and death in the life of all who would be saved by grace through faith in Him. He clothed us in His righteousness and promised us an eternal inheritance, which is kept for us in heaven.

But throughout both Old and New Testaments, we read of a time of terrible trouble and devastating tribulation for the wicked. Scripture calls it 'the time of Jacob's Trouble', when the wrath of God will be poured out on a godless society, before Christ returns in honour and great glory. He will come in the cloud with His church-age saints, to set up His millennial rule on earth - and will usher in a time of peace and prosperity.

In that wonderful day, the promise of restoration for the nation of Israel will have arrived, and the unfolding story of God's wonderful redemptive plan will be consummated in Christ's millennial kingdom, when the earth will be filled with the glory of God. In that day, Christ will sit on the throne of His Father, David and rule in the earthly Jerusalem, in righteousness - and in that day, His church age saints will rule and reign with Him under His divine command.

All who enter that coming kingdom will have been saved, by God's grace, from the wrath of God, by faith... and the Lord Jesus will be their refuge from the wind and a shelter from the storm. All who are saved during that coming time of Great Tribulation, will find their hope in Christ - Who is likened to refreshing streams of living water. He will become like the shade of a huge rock in a parched and dusty land, to all who believe.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the unfolding plan of redemption and the wonderful way that You sent the Lord Jesus, through the nation of Israel, to be our Saviour and Lord. Thank You that You are already my shield and refuge, by grace through faith, and thank You that I have Christ as my food and drink, and the Rock of my salvation. Thank You that nothing can stop Your plans and purposes from being fulfilled, for both Your people, Israel, and for the Church, which is Christ's Body. Thank You in Jesus' name, AMEN.
