I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins.

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Too often throughout their history, the people of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord.. and in His justice God was required to carry out the serious consequences of their sin – but despite His legitimate case against His chosen people – in His righteous wrath.. God as always remembers mercy, and so we read: I, even I, am the One who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will remember your sins no more.

God places His Word above His holy name and although God’s own curses against an errant Israel had to be executed to the letter, all the promises of God bestowed on His chosen nation stand fast for ever and ever.

It is for God’s own sake and for the sake of His holy name that God will never break His promises to Israel – and praise God that in like manner He will never break His many precious promises to His church, which is the body of Christ – for they are all ‘yes’ and ‘amen’ in Him.

God is holy and God is righteous and His word never fails and His plans stand firm forever. The intentions of the Lord can never be shaken and He is a God that remembers His covenant promises to all His people. The words of the Lord are faithful and true and they are commanded and guaranteed to a thousand generations – and so in His grace and mercy we rejoice to read: I, even I, am the One who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins.. any more.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithful promises to Your people Israel; thank You for Your faithful promises to the Church and thank You for Your faithful promises to me. Thank You Father that Your wrath against my sin was poured out on the Lord Jesus in my stead, and that in Him.. my sins are not longer remembered. Praise Your holy name, AMEN
