Who is this who comes from Edom, With garments of glowing colors from Bozrah, This One who is majestic in His apparel, Marching in the greatness of His strength? "It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save."

Verse of the Day

There is great comfort for the people of Israel (and for all the children of God) in the book of Isaiah, for despite Israel's rebellion against the Lord and the crucifixion of their promised Messiah, God has declared that He will not forsake His people, their iniquity would be forgiven, and their sin would be remembered no more. Isaiah's comforting words tell of a future glory in Zion, for the Deliverer will come with healing on His wings to set up His eternal kingdom and to rule this world with equity, justice, and peace. But He will also come with His garments stained with the blood of Israel's enemies, marching in the greatness of His strength, for He is mighty to save.

The pleading prayer of the captive remnant of Israel will one day be answered beyond what they could think or imagine, but first they must go through that terrible time of Jacob's trouble and endure the day of vengeance of our God, for Christ must finally destroy His enemies and place all rule under His feet.

It was at the Cross where sin, Satan, hell, and death were defeated and a New Covenant with Israel was made through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus. But God has permitted the destructive effects of sin to reverberate down through the centuries, as we look towards that time when Christ will return (with the Church), to reign on earth as King of kings and Lord of lords. And the Bible gives much comforting information about the destruction of the wicked and God's restoration - for all who trust in His name.

Joel describes devastation in the valley of Jehoshaphat when wicked men will be punished, while Revelation tells of the coming bloody battle of Armageddon when bowls of wrath will be poured out on a Christ-rejecting sinful world. But Isaiah also speaks of the triumphs of the Messiah when he strides victoriously from Bozrah in Edom, with His garments stained with the blood of Israel's enemies - which He will trample underfoot.

The New Covenant with Israel was ratified at the Cross, but will be fully implemented after that nation has called out to Jesus as their Messiah to save them. 'Hosannah' they will cry. 'Save us, in the name of the LORD'. And their Messiah Jesus will come in the name of the Lord a second time, to save His people from their sins. But in the meantime, He has equipped us to be able ministers of a New Covenant: "Not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills but the Spirit produces life."

In that day, the question that will be asked: "Who is this that comes from Edom with His garments dyed with the blood of Israel's enemies?" In that day they will look on Him Whom they pierced and remember, repent, and return to the Lord God of their salvation. In that day, Israel's righteous Messiah Whose sacrificial blood paid the price for their sins, will be identified as the One Whose garments are stained with the blood of their enemies - for He is mighty to save. And in that day they will cry, "Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the LORD. Hosannah in the highest." And His name is JESUS.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, what a gracious God You are, for Your mercies are new every morning and Your promises last from one generation to another. Thank You that You are a God Who forgives the sins of all who call on the name of the Lord Jesus for salvation. To Him be all praise and glory, forever and ever, AMEN.
