Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving-kindness I have drawn you
-Jeremiah 31:3 (KJV)
Thoughts on Today’s Verse
The very nature of God is love – the alpha and omega of God’s eternal and unchangeable attributes unites in love, and it is through His eternal character of love, intermingled with a multiplicity of divine graces, that we discover ourselves to be His beloved children. It was not because of our sorry state that He demonstrated His unconditional love towards us (pitiable though we were)…. it was not because of our desperate destiny that He poured out His unique love to us, (appalling though our future was). It all rested upon God’s eternal, unchangeable, divine, unique love towards us which was demonstrated by the One Who was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities. Herein is love – not that we loved God, but that He took the initiative and loved us first, by sending His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him should not be condemned, but be given abundant, eternal life.
God of wisdom and love, we are not worthy to gather the crumbs under Your table and yet in love You picked us up out of the miry clay and dressed us in the robe of Christ’s righteousness, for His names’ sake. We praise You for the unconditional love You pour out on us in unhindered measure – all because Your eternal character is measureless love. In Christ’s name we pray. AMEN
