What Does John 1:3 Mean?

All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created.

John 1:3(HCSB)

Verse of the Day

The foundational truth of Christ Jesus our Saviour, Who died to redeem mankind and reunite sinners with their Creator God, is that Christ Jesus is the Word made flesh. Christ Jesus is the Almighty Creator of all things, for we read that by Him were all things created. Everything in heaven and earth, whether visible or invisible, whether they are thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers; all things were created through Him, all things were created for Him, and apart from Him, nothing was created that has been created.

The foundational truth in these early verses in John's Gospel steers our minds back to the creation in Genesis, where the Triune God spoke the universe into being by His mighty Word and formed man from the dust of His own creation, breathing in His own Spirit of life and light.

It also directs our minds forward into the eternal ages to come where the new creation in Christ will participate in a new heaven and a new earth, to display the glory of God and to make known His mighty power, His great wisdom, His unchanging will, and to show forth His holy name so that He might receive glory from all His created beings.

Paul echoes this in his letter to the Colossians: "For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things have been created through Him and for Him."

The foundational truth seen in this verse, is that the eternal God Who co-existed before creation began, exhibited His almighty power in and through the incarnate Word, Jesus Christ our Lord. At an appointed time, He was clothed in flesh, becoming the perfect Son of Man so that sinful humanity might not perish but be redeemed from sin's eternal destiny and be restored into a right relation with their Creator.

There are many marvellous mysteries of godliness that are too deep for our limited mortal minds and so He revealed what we need to know through His eternal Word Who was made flesh and dwelt among us so that by grace through faith, we could be made the righteous of Christ and dwell with Him forever by simply believing on Him.

My Prayer

You Lord, are worthy to receive all honour, and glory, and praise. Thank You for Jesus, eternal Creator of everything. He not only created me, but He bought me with a price, His own precious blood on the Cross of Calvary. Thank You that in Christ Jesus, I have become a new creation. What a wonderful Saviour! May I show forth His glory in the ages to come. In His name I pray, AMEN.
