What Does John 14:26 Mean?

"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

John 14:26(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The time for Christ's exodus from this world was fast approaching. Jesus had already told His disciples that He was going to ask the Father to send them another Counsellor, a Helper just like Himself – the Spirit of truth Who would act as their Advocate and plead their case to the Father. He explained that the unsaved would not be able to receive Him, because they know nothing of Him, but that the Spirit of Whom He spoke would stay with them forever, and that in the future this Holy Spirit of truth would take us residence within them and abide in them forever.

Here, the Lord Jesus expands this truth further by telling them that the Holy Spirit will be their great Teacher and teach them all things, and that He would also bring back to their remembrance all that Christ Himself had taught His faithful followers so that they in turn could teach others.

This wonderful Person about Whom Christ was speaking is none other than the third Person of the Trinity Who is in all things equal with the Father and the Son, and together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified forever. This wonderful Person about Whom Christ was speaking is at this very moment living within my body and yours – and is indwelling the hearts of all those that have placed their trust in Christ as Saviour.

We have continuous, daily access to the Holy Spirit, for wherever we go, He is with us and He has promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us. Each one of us have dwelling within our hearts the omnipotent, omniscient, eternal, glorious, gentle Holy Spirit, Who has come to live in us, to be our Advocate and Counsellor, our Teacher and Instructor, our Comforter, and our ever present Helper in time of trouble.

Never forget that whatever you are facing now, the Holy Spirit is within you and is facing it together with you. He will never leave you to face it alone but is there in the name of Jesus, to Whom all power and authority on heaven and on earth has been given.

So gird up the loins of your mind and trust Him today, and He will take care of all your tomorrows.

My Prayer

Loving Father, how wonderful to know that I have the Holy Spirit of God living in me, teaching me the truth of Your Word and guiding my steps. Thank You that my frail body has become a temple in which He has come to reside forever. Open my understanding to the immeasurable riches of Your grace toward me, knowing that at this very moment Your Holy Spirit is resident within me. Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.
