No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you
John 15:15 (NASB)
Thoughts on Today’s Verse
The Lord Jesus, Who is the eternal Son of God and high King of heaven, chose us to become intimately related to Himself. We did not choose Him, for we were dead in our trespasses, slaves to sin and eternally estranged from His Father – and yet, in grace and love He stooped down from His high kingly throne to raise us up, and seat us together with Himself in heavenly places – and opened up His Word to us.
When we start to consider the implication of this single verse, we are brought to our knees. He picked us up out of the miry prison of slavery and elevated us into heavenly positions. No longer does He call us slaves, for we have entered into His inner circle of friends, and has made known to us, (through the apostle Paul) mysteries that were kept hidden from before the foundation of the world.
What is the reason for this eternal honour and for what purpose have we been elevated into this state of heavenly friendship with the Son of the most High God? Is it not to carry out His plans and His purposes in a Christ-rejecting sinful world, and is it not to that we might know the mysteries of God, so that they might be made known to others that are lost in their sins.
Let us remember that we are the slaves for whom Christ laid down His life so that we might become His friends and know the truth of the gospel of grace and do as He commanded – for in His Word and by His Spirit, He has been made know to us the hidden mysteries of God.
Heavenly Father, thank You that You have raised me up and called me to be Your friend. I pray that I may do as You have commanded, and let the love of Jesus flow through me – to Your praise and glory, AMEN
