There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

The union of God and Man in the Person of Christ Jesus is far beyond the limited understanding of finite man. As eternal Deity.. the Lord never grows faint or weary and there is no limit to His wisdom and understanding, but as humanity.. Jesus grew tired and hungry. He experienced the full range of human emotions and was tempted in all points like as we are – yet without sin.

The early signs of His rejection had already begun in Judea, and Christ knew His earthly ministry would focus in Galilee, but although He was sent as Messiah to the lost sheep of the house of Israel, Jesus was also to become the Saviour of the world – and so He went through the gentile country of Samaria, where wearied by the journey – the eternal Creator of the universe, Who had humbled Himself to become a homeless, travel-worn, exhausted, Jew.. beseeched this woman: give Me to drink.

Jesus started talking to this despised, immoral, isolated Samaritan woman so that her need for His living water and the eternal life that He offers to all.. by grace through faith in Him, could be satisfied. But what of the question that the Lord asked to this woman of Samaria: give Me to drink.

God demonstrates His own love toward each one of us, in the way that Christ showed love for this simple Samaritan woman – in that while we were yet sinners and dead in our trespasses and sin.. with no hope in the world – Christ died for us.

He laid aside His glory for each one of us and was born in the likeness of human flesh, so that He could seek and to save that which was lost.

The uniting of Christ’s humanity with eternal deity was so that He could come and search us out and offer each of us His living water of life – for whoever drinks of the water that Christ offers shall never thirst; but that water will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus, Who humbled Himself by becoming a homeless, travel-worn, exhausted, despised Jew.. even to the point of death on a cross, so that You could seek me out and save me. Thank You that like the woman at the well You have become in me a well of water springing up to eternal life. Use me as a channel through whom Your living water may be poured out to all with whom I come in contact – to Your praise and glory in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.
