What Does Luke 11:2 Mean?

And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Luke 11:2(KJV)

Verse of the Day

When the Lord Jesus taught His disciple to pray, He did not give them a magic format to repeat as a vain repetition, but a method of prayer to use as they approached the throne of grace. This is also our model of prayer, that embraces praise, worship, petition, supplication, intercession, thanksgiving, and fellowship with our Father in heaven.

We are to offer our prayers to our Father Who is seated in the heaven of heavens. We are to acknowledge His authority in every part of our lives and in the world around us. We are to worship Him in spirit and truth, and glorify His name.

We are to reverence His unique greatness, for He is our Father in heaven Whose name is high and lifted up. And throughout the Bible, the name of God and the character behind His name is unveiled in many different and special ways, and so we are called to hallow His precious name for truly His name is Wonderful.

We are to pray into God's will for the world, for our country, for our home, for the Church, for the nation of Israel, for others, and for ourselves. We are to pray that His will is carried out and that His plans and purposes, which we discover within the pages of Scripture, are brought to full and final completion, to His praise and glory.

We are to pray that God's kingdom will one day be set up on earth, when Christ will rule and reign as King of kings and Lord of lords. And we are to pray that as citizens of heaven, we are to live as His sons and daughters, in utter dependence upon Him for every area of our lives, knowing that when we live as unto to Lord in spirit and in truth, we are living the kingdom life with Christ ruling our hearts and enthroned in our lives.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You that You are my Father and that I can call you Abba. I praise and glorify Your holy name, for You are my Peace, my Shepherd, my Rock, and my Salvation. I pray that Your will be done in my life to Your praise and glory, and that Your will be done in the world, in my country, in my home, in my church family, and in the nation of Israel. I pray that You would govern my heart and rule my life so that I reflect the love and beauty of Christ to all with whom I come into contact today. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
