What Does Luke 1:26 Mean?

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,

Luke 1:26(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Doctor Luke was a talented historian who paid careful attention to every little detail of Christ's life and ministry. He began his good news of the gospel of Christ, based on authentic and corroborated eyewitness accounts from servants of the Lord.

Luke wrote of all that Jesus started to do from the beginning of His earthly ministry until He ascended into heaven from a mountain, close to the little town of Bethany, leaving His disciples to rejoice in hope while giving praise to God for all His goodness and grace to them.

It was the angel Gabriel who gave Daniel the prophetic 490-year timeline for the appearance of the promised Messiah. It was Gabriel who, once again, was sent early in Luke's Gospel account, to disclose to Zechariah the priest that his long-awaited son was to be born to his barren wife, Elisabeth.

Despite his disbelief, their son was conceived as prophesied and instructions were given that the child was to be called John, and he would become the priestly voice of One crying in the wilderness, "Prepare the way of the Lord." John was to make straight in the desert a highway for the King of kings and Lord of lords.

And so it was that in the 6th month of Elisabeth's pregnancy that the angel Gabriel once again became a messianic messenger who was "sent from God into a city in Galilee - called Nazareth - to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, because he was of the house and lineage of David," Israel's greatest king. And that young virgin was to become the mother of Israel's promised Messiah.

Hundreds of Old Testament prophecies were literally fulfilled to the letter during the short life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ, and hundreds more are to intersect with precision at His Second Coming.

Despite the overwhelming evidences of Christ's First Coming, there were few that recognised Who He truly was, and we are warned that many will be asleep, many will scoff, many will doubt, many will be deceived, and many will be enticed away from the truth of God's Word by doctrines of demons and false teachers.

Let us study to show ourselves approved unto God. Let us watch for His any day return and let us be ready, for "at a time that ye think not our Lord will return."

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that You have given us all that we need to live godly in Christ Jesus as we watch and wait for His any day return, to take us to be with Himself. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus and to prepare for that day when Christ comes to take the Church to be with Himself. Give me wisdom, insight, discernment, and understanding as I watch and wait for Christ's any day return, and keep my heart pure before You in thought and in deed. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
