What Does Luke 18:7 Mean?

now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them?

Luke 18:7(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Christ uses the parable of the widow woman and the unjust judge to encourage us to be continually in prayer, to pray without ceasing, and to remain in constant communion with the Lord as we petition Him for the blessings we need from His gracious hand - especially when those blessings seem to be delayed.

This is not a teaching that describes a God as a worldly judge Who is reluctant to bestow His blessings, but rather a generous Father Who gives good gifts to all His children. Nor are we likened to some lonely, poverty-stricken, unsupported widow, for we are children of God, beloved of the Father, accepted in the Beloved, and inheritors of the kingdom of heaven.

We do not have to grovel for meager scraps at the bench of an unbelieving judge, for we have free and open access into the throne of grace and the riches of His love in Christ Jesus so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

We are to be continually in prayer, to pray without ceasing, and to remain in constant communion with the Lord, knowing that God answers our prayers. And we are assured that any perceived delay is His wise preparations.

His delay is not inactivity or disinterest, but a preparation to make all things work together for good, to those that love God and are called according to His purpose. Will not God grant justice to His elect who cry out to Him day and night?

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to maintain a trusting attitude of prayer, knowing that any perceived delay is Your willing preparation. Thank You that You are holy and righteous and will avenge Your elect and make all things right in Your own perfect timing. Thank You that You are my Father, and I am Your child. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
