What Does Luke 3:22 Mean?

and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in a physical appearance like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: You are My beloved Son. I take delight in You!

Luke 3:22(HCSB)

Verse of the Day

The baptism of the Lord Jesus is a beautiful picture of the Trinity working in harmony, and this verse is a glorious illustration of the Godhead meeting in unity. What an astonishing happening that Father, Son, and Holy Spirit should unite at this significant moment in history, when the eternal Son of God as the perfect Son of Man is commissioned to begin His earthly ministry to a lost and dying world.

Christ was in prayer when the heavens opened and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended from heaven and rested upon Him. Jesus was praying to His Father when God pulled back the curtain from His holy, hidden presence and rejoiced over Him with these words of blessed assurance and hallowed grace.

For thirty years in obscurity, this young Man had quietly honoured His Heavenly Father, day by day, while submitting in obedience and grace to His earthly mother and adoptive father. And as the time of His preparation for His most significant yet solemn ministry was ending, we see the Trinity working in harmony, the Godhead meeting in unity.

As the Son of God walked into the waters of the Jordan to fulfil prophecy through His water-baptism, we read: "The Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: 'You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.'"

This is Jesus our Saviour Who died on the Cross to pay the price for your sins and mine. Should we not give our lives in service to Him willingly and in love?

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, what a beautiful moment seeing the three members of the Godhead together, Father, Son, and Spirit in perfect unity at the baptism of Jesus. How I thank You for sending Jesus to be my Saviour. Thank You for Your Word of truth which reminds me of all that Christ has done for me. May I live my life for You, in the power of the Holy Spirit, to Your praise and glory, AMEN.
