What Does Matthew 6:9 Mean?

"Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

Matthew 6:9(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The Father of glory resides in heaven and His name is to be hallowed, treated with reverence, and set apart from all others. God began to unveil Himself to His creation in the beginning. As time passed, this revealing of Himself to man often came through the many names that He called Himself - each one disclosing one more beautiful facet of the immortal, invisible, only wise God of grace.

Hallowed be His name.

Our first glimpse of our Father who art in heaven, is as Creator and Companion, Redeemer and Lord. Abraham found Him to be his all-sufficient Provider, and to Moses, the friend of God, He unveiled Himself as his banner of glory and strength. He was Peace to Gideon; He was Shepherd to David; He came in a still small voice to Elijah, while Hagar was comforted by the One who sees all things.

Every attribute of the Father gives us one more precious glimpse of His faithfulness, His loving-kindness, His wisdom, and His purpose. Our Heavenly Father is the Everlasting Father. He is Father of Light, Father of Mercies, Father of Spirits, and He is Abba - Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hallowed be His name.

Although He is shrouded in a cloud of unknowing, He is the knowable God of grace Who has made Himself intimately acquainted with His creatures in the face of the Son of His love.

Hallowed be His name.

My Prayer

Loving Heavenly Father, hallowed be Your name for ever and ever, AMEN.
