What Does Micah 7:7 Mean?

But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation My God will hear me.

Micah 7:7(NASB)

Verse of the Day

In so much of the Word of God, we discover the little word BUT. This tiny conjunction joins two thoughts together through stark contrast. Often we read of the foolishness, fretfulness, disobedience, and rebellion of sinful man, but then in contrast we read of the faithfulness, graciousness, and long-suffering of the Lord.

Joshua challenged Israel with his contrasting choices: "Choose you this day whom you will serve BUT as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

Micah also, with great sadness, challenged Israel to turn from their sinful ways, warning of the serious consequences of failing to do so. He even looked through God's prophetic telescope to further proclaim the promised Messiah of God Who was to be born in Bethlehem to save His people from their sins. Despite the foolishness, fretfulness, disobedience, and rebellion of Israel, we hear Micah proclaim "BUT as for meI will watch expectantly for the LORD. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me."

The tempting enticements towards worldly pursuits, fleshly ways, and ungodly activities are the challenges we all face in a Christ-rejecting, sinful world. As believers we have a choice: 1. To be ruled by the flesh and adopt carnal pursuit. 2. To be governed by God and walk in spirit and truth.

As we seek to grow in grace and live godly in Christ Jesus, let us choose to adopt an attitude in stark contrast with the foolish, fretful, disobedient, and rebellious ways of the world, and discover the unfathomable value of that little word BUT.

BUT as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

BUT as for me, I will watch expectantly for the LORD.

BUT as for me, I will wait for the God of my salvation and My God will hear me.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, I choose to serve You in spirit and truth and to watch and wait expectantly for You. Help me to make the right choices in my life, and thank You that even when I prove faithless, You are faithful and true. Praise Your holy name! AMEN.
