From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”—See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God.

His Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things.—If children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

“I and the Father are one…. The Father is in me and I am in the Father.”—“My Father and your Father,… my God and your God.”—“I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one.”

The church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

“A servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.”

A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves.”—“Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Jesus… rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
