Thoughts on Today’s Verse

God knows the importance of praise, the power of prayer and the benefits that accompany a thankful heart in the life of a believer, which is why so many writers of scriptures exhort us to rejoice in the Lord, to pray without ceasing and in everything to give thanks – indeed the apostle Paul explains that this is God’s will for all His blood-bought children.

And here we discover the Psalmist giving glory to the Lord in an explosion of praise and joyful thanksgiving.. for His abundant goodness and everlasting grace – for the Lord IS good.. and His mercy endures forever and ever. He is our God, Who is worthy of our ongoing worship, our continuous praise and our grateful thanks at all times.. in every way – and in all situations.

But the magnificent outburst of praise in this particular Psalm foreshadows the climatic celebration that will accompany Israel’s long awaited Messiah-King, at His second advent – when the nation, the leaders, the priests and the people will gather together at the triumphal entrance of the Holy City.. to welcome their Messiah, their King – their Saviour and their God.

Although He was rejected at His first coming – this magnificent song of praise and thanksgiving that rejoices in his never-failing faithfulness throughout the generations and which glories in His return, will resound throughout the whole earth as Israel gathers to welcome their King, rejoicing in God’s unfailing faithfulness and extolling the name of the Lord.

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good – for His mercy endures forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever – AMEN

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, how I praise and thank You that by grace through faith I have come to recognize You as the Messiah of Israel, Saviour of the world and God of the universe, Who loved me so much that You came to earth to die on the cross to pay the price for my sin. I praise and thank You for Your grace towards me and for Your never-failing faithfulness to Your people Israel – and we look forward to that wonderful day when the nation, the leaders the priests and the people will gather together in praise and thanksgiving to welcome Jesus as their Messiah, their Saviour, their Lord and their God, in Whose name we pray, AMEN
