What Does Psalm 29:11 Mean?

The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace.

Psalm 29:11(NASB)

Verse of the Day

The Lord is all-powerful, and He is eternally omnipotent. He has no rival in the heavens above and no equal in the earth beneath, or the waters below the earth. His strength brings protection, help, mercy, and joy – and the Lord will strengthen the weary and give grace to those who are humble of heart. From start to finish, this glorious song of David declares the splendour and wonder of the Lord God Almighty Whose name is great, Whose glory is everlasting, and Who is worthy to be praised and worshipped throughout eternity.

It is the same powerful Lord that controls the flashing lightning above and the raging waters beneath. And it is the same faithful God Whose compassion never fails and Whose mercies are new every morning, Who gently whispers 'peace be still' into our stormy hearts. There is no mountain too lofty that cannot be moved at His command; there are no waters too wide that He cannot bridge, and there is no occasion or circumstance in life that you are facing to which He will not respond.

The Lord is not blind to our needs or deaf to our call, and the voice of the Lord is heard throughout this psalm, speaking into many, different circumstances. The voice of the Lord is over the waters and His glory thunders. The voice of the Lord is powerful and very majestic. His voice breaks the mighty cedars of Lebanon into pieces, causing Lebanon to skip like a calf, and Sirion to run like a young wild ox.

We are also told in this psalm that His voice hews out flames of fire, shakes the wilderness Kadesh, and even makes the wild deer give birth to their calves. Yes, the Lord is not only present in every situation and understands every circumstance we are facing, but He knows those that are His. It was as David reflected on the mighty wisdom of God and the way He protected His forefathers in times gone by, that he could rejoice that God will continue to strengthen His people and to bless them with His perfect peace that passes understanding.

The Lord knows His people, but His people must know their Lord and trust in the power of His might, by faith – so they can say in full assurance, "The Lord is my strength I will not trust in my own abilities; the Lord is my strength and I will trust in Him."

The Lord not only gives us His strength in time of need, but He also blesses His people with peace. He blesses those who believe in Him with peace - peace with God through the forgiveness of sin and the peace of God that passes all human understanding - a peace that gives rests to our soul and stills our heart. God, in His grace, not only removes the sin-barrier that estranges man from his Creator God, but He desires His people to rest in His love and to know His own precious peace deep within our hearts so that we may enjoy sweet fellowship with Him.

The Lord has blessed us with every spiritual blessing, and all His promises to us are all 'yes' and 'amen' in Jesus Christ our Lord. All that we have to do is to appropriate them so that no matter how fiercely the storms of life batter our tiny boat, we have confidence in the One Who rules the tempest with His Word and causes the stormy seas to be still.

No matter what life throws your way, you can have confidence in the truth of God’s Word and joyously proclaim, "The Lord is my strength and He is my peace."

My Prayer

Loving Father, You have never failed me in the past, and I trust You in the future to be my stronghold and my peace. Thank You for giving me strength and blessing me with the peace that passes understanding. You are my Lord and my God and I love You. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
