What Does Psalm 37:5 Mean?

Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

Psalm 37:5(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Many Scripture passages tell us that without faith in the Son of God it is impossible for the unbeliever to be saved and we are told in Hebrews that without faith it is impossible for the believer to please God. We are also told that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. Faith in God is simply believing His Word. Faith simply trusts what God has told us.

For the unbeliever, faith in God is trusting in the death and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus for redemption, trusting Him for the forgiveness of sins. That is what pleases God, for it is not His will that anyone should perish.

For the Christian, faith in Christ is simply trusting God to finish the good work that He started in our lives when we were first saved, trusting God's Spirit to work in us for our Christian growth. The Christian is to trust God to carry out the ongoing work of sanctification in our lives so that we are conformed more and more into the image and likeness of Jesus Christ.

It is believing that God means what He tells us in His Word, trusting that it really is God Who is working in us and giving us the desire to do what pleases Him and then giving us the power to carry it out. It is committing our way to the Lord and trusting Him to carry out ALL that He has promised to do in our lives.

Once we trust God for salvation (where God paid the price our sins), we should then trust God for our sanctification (where God breaks the power of sin in our life). We do this by committing our way to the Lord and not trying to live the Christian life in our own strength. We do this by trusting God to work His perfect will in and through our lives, and not by trying to live a good life or trusting in ourselves and our own abilities.

We do this by taking God at His Word and really believing all that His Word tells us. If Christians really did commit ALL their ways to the Lord and really did trust in God in ALL thing and believe ALL that He has told us in His Word as FACT, then we would discover that our will for our life would line up with God's will for our life.

If only believers would stop fretting about all the difficulties and evils in life and truly delight themselves in the Lord, by trusting His Word, resting in His promises, and committing everything into His hands, He could carry out His perfect will in each of our lives.

My Prayer

Loving Father, I want to commit all my ways to You and trust implicitly in Your Word. I know that You have a plan for my life which I can hinder when I seek to do things my way. Keep me ever looking to Jesus, in Whose name I pray, AMEN.
