And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yes, the work of our hands establish thou it

Psalm 90:17  (Websters)

Thoughts on Today’s Verse

Moses was a man of God who spent much of his ministry to Israel calling for them to trust in the Lord, and to turn from their sin of unbelief and rebellion. In this beautiful Psalm, Moses compares and contrasts the eternal God with mortal man. He differentiates between the brevity of humanity’s fleeting life, which ebbs and flows like a wave that kisses the shore for a fleeting moment.. and shows the disparity, between the matchless wisdom of the eternal God and the foolish ignorance of finite man.

But underpinning all his comparisons of a holy God with sinful man.. and shining through all his contrasts of the eternal Creator with the fallen race of men.. is a prayer that God has seen fit to answer, through the life, death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Shining through this song of Moses is a song of praise that reflects the unshakable trust that Moses had in the Lord our God. – and so he concludes with this beautiful prayer: Let the beauty and favor of the Lord our God be upon us. May He establish for us the work of our hands and may be bless the endeavor of our lives.

May the grace and favour of God continue to rest upon us, and may the beauty of the Lord Jesus be seen in us and through us – as we submit to the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit in our life, to His praise and glory.

My Prayer

Teach me to number my days and grant me a heart of wisdom and understanding so that I may become mature in the faith, grow in grace and come to a deeper  knowledge and understanding of the Lord Jesus Christ, in Whose name I pray, AMEN
