What Does Psalm 96:1 Mean?

Sing to the LORD a new song; Sing to the LORD, all the earth.

Psalm 96:1(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Angels shout their praises to God while the heavens rejoice, the earth is joyful, trees clap their hands, and the very stones proclaim of the glory to God; for He is full of grace and truth. His splendour and majesty are ever before Him, and His strength and beauty is in His holy temple. The faithfulness of our God stretches from one generation to another.

No wonder we are called by the psalmist to sing unto the Lord a new song, a glorious song, a wonderful song that proclaims His goodness to us and to all men. No surprise that we are exhorted to worship the Lord in the beauty of His holiness, for even the trees of the forest sing for joy and clap their hands together because the Lord is coming to judge the world in His righteousness and His people in His faithfulness.

The Church is His Body, and we are now the holy temple of our faithful Lord, for we were created in Christ as a new creation, sanctified as His peculiar people, set apart as His representatives on earth, and we have been given a glorious song of grace to sing of the One that shows forth the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness towards us, in Christ Jesus.

The more we learn of our wonderful Saviour and the deeper our understanding becomes, the more the desire grows to simply praise and thank Him, and to worship Him for Who He is. Is there a more beautiful expression of worship than to lift up holy hands in humble adoration and love for our Lord while singing songs of praise to glorify His name?

Let us join together and sing unto the LORD a new song of praise and thanksgiving, and proclaim to the earth His wonderful salvation. Let us tell abroad the wonder of His name, for our Lord Jesus is greatly to be praised for all that He has done.

"Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy."

Hallelujah! Praise our Saviour! Sing a new song to our Lord Who alone is worthy!

My Prayer

Loving Father, I lift up my voice in praise and thanksgiving for the wonder that You have done in my life. I pray that my life in thought, word, and deed, may be a song of praise to You, and the goodness of Your grace. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
