The Visit - Song Of Zacharias (1)

Song Of Zacharias - STUDY

Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people.
Luke 1:68

Beautiful Creation

Is this not a beautiful picture of the God of creation visiting His creatures. Is this not a stunning image of the Lord of love reclaiming His precious ones. Just think of the magnitude of this – the Almighty thus caring and thus loving. This is not a solitary visit from a distant Deity, but a daily and hourly occurrence.

God’s Visits

We have glorious reminders of the visits He made in the past to His own. Down through the pages of Scripture, He demonstrated His love for His beloved ones. To Adam and Eve, He presented His lambskin covering, as they cowered in the bushes. To Abraham He secured the ram in the thicket, to meet the sacrificial requirements. To Jacob, He touched his joint in the morning mist, and made him prince with God. To Moses He declared Himself to be the great ‘ I Am‘ in the blazing desert bush. To Gideon, He poured gushing cascades of dewdrops upon his upturned fleece. To Manoah and his barren wife, He received their thank offering in a flame of fire.

Mary and Zacharias

To Mary He secretly overshadowed Her virginity, crossing the threshold of her womb. And Zacharias, full of the Holy Ghost, reminded us in His marvellous song of praise:- "Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us, in the house of His servant David – as He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets, who’ve been since the world began, that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hands of all who hate us”… Luke 1:68-79

Christ’s Visits

Of course, the most sublime visit He ever made was in the person of the Lord Jesus. That long and special visitation was the most marvellous of all, resulting in waterfalls of blessings being poured out over mankind. His love and care and concern and blessing continue to pour forth from His side. Each time one of His little ones cry out to Him He hears. He knows and He cares. He visits each one of His own when they call out to Him in trouble…

Different Visits

But they often do not see Him for He comes silently and softly. His approach is often shrouded in mystery. His visits are often misunderstood. He knocks, saying, open for me, my sister.. my love, my dove, my perfect one. Song.5:2. He visits those dead in trespasses and sin, to give them deliverance. He visits those that are sick and suffering, to offer grace in time of need. And ofttimes He visits us bearing some rich blessing, which He desires to bestow, but we keep the door firmly barred to His person and we will NOT open the door: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me”.. Rev.3:20. And He waits – blessing in hand. He waits for us outside of our crumbling lives. But sometimes we miss His blessings. “I opened for my beloved, but my beloved had turned away and was gone.” Song.5:6

Little Parable

There is a little story of a Scottish woman who could not pay her rent. Her unkind landlord threatened that he would seize all her goods for past payment. In desperation she barricaded the door and barred the windows to prevent the inevitable. However, a good friend heard of the poor woman’s dilemma and went to visit her. He packed his bags with money and jewels enough to cover her costs for many years, but however hard he hammered on her door, she would NOT open the door. The friend sadly went away, and the widow was left to face the consequences.

Acceptable Time

Once, long ago, the Lord said: “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever”. Gen.6:3. “Now is the accepted time to come to the Lord”. 2Cor.6:2 Now is the accepted time to return to the Lord, and to get right with Him.
