Spiritual Sight

Mine eyes have seen your salvation.
Luke 2:26

Glories of Sight

How we just love the glories of sight – to behold the beauties that surround us. How we delight to view the landscape – to gaze into the dazzling starlit night sky. I once recall walking down a lane, wondering at the intricacy of simple cow parsley, a butterfly’s wing, a glorious sunrise, a golden sunset - a craggy mountain peak.

Spiritual Eye

But as aged Simeon gazed at the face of that eight-day-old baby boy...  as he held the precious, helpless, newborn babe, bundled in simple wraps, his physical eye was eclipsed by his spiritual eye of understanding. A deep knowledge, a wisdom deep down in his heart, that he was treading on holy ground. And like the great proclamation of Peter, it could equally be claimed, flesh and blood has not revealed it unto you, but my Father in heaven. Matt.16:17

Spiritual Sight

And Simeon “SAW”  the Consolation of Israel. And Simeon “SAW”  Christ, the Son of the living God. After a lifetime of living by faith and a lifespan of watching and waiting, Simeon saw, and Simeon cried, “mine eyes have seen your salvation.” Luke 2:30

Patient Trust

Four hundred years of silence had passed with no sign of the forthcoming Messiah, yet he was not swayed by the changing attitudes of religiosity that swamped Israel. This faithful soul had no gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit as his down-payment. This remnant man had lived a life of blind faith, love, patience...  and he waited. This loyal, godly Old Testament saint, exemplifies a true man of faith, who pleased God. For he believed God; he trusted God, he watched, and he waited – and yet Simeon, "having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise". Heb 11:39 ..

Word of God

And like all scripture which is given for our learning, Simeon serves as an “ensample” to us – an example and shadow of heavenly things..  just like all the men and women of faith, discovered in the pages of Hebrews 11. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 2Tim.3:16

Men of Faith

By faith, from Adam to John the Baptizer, Abel to Zechariah, Job to Simeon... we see men who lived by faith – men given as examples to teach us God’s perfect way. Like Simeon, it is not the physical eye that shows us the truth God wants us to learn, for we live by faith and not by sight. 2Cor.5:7. But like Job who heard by the ear, and yet finally saw with spiritual understanding… we also cry, "I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eyes see You". Job 42:5 ...now my spiritual eyes understand.

Heavenly Treasures

Oh, we long to see the angel of His presence, or feel His arms of love around us. We ache to behold our Beloved: leaping upon the mountains, skipping on the hills. Song of Songs 2:8. We desire evidence of His love and verification of His promises, and how we long for the insight of His heavenly treasures.. confirmation of His precious promises. But we too must “SEE” the salvation of God – through the spiritual eye of faith, and we must “KNOW” the promise of His Word, with the understanding of the heart.

Life of Faith

As we face the future we must humbly seek to live out His new life in us and through us. This is a life of faith. This is a life of love. This is a life of patience, and it is a life of waiting... for the Spirit Himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. Romans 8:16
