The Superlative Person

Reflection on Love

Love explodes into a myriad of sparkling rainbowed gemstones, that make up the “Supreme Good“: Love is patient; Love is kind; Love is not envy; Love doesn't boast. Love is not proud; Love is not rude. Love isn't self-seeking, and love is not easily angered. Love keeps no record of wrongs, and love doesn't delight in evil. Love rejoices in the truth. Love always protects; Love always trusts; Love always hopes; Love always perseveres and love never fails.

Reflection of Christ

Oh, consider this spectrum of love and who comes to mind? Does not this multi-hued gemstone reflect the life of the perfect Man? Was not our Lord Jesus Christ patient and kind? Was He not generous and humble, courteous and unselfish? Did He not display a good and a gracious temper? Was not His life one of guileless trust in the Father through the Spirit’s power? Did He not live a life of sincerity and truth? Was not the life of the Lord Jesus Christ the inspiration for Paul’s “Supreme Good”

Personification of Love

Paul tell us that love is the fulfilling of the Law. He reminds us that Jesus said: “I did not come to destroy but to fulfil the Law and the prophets”. Behold the Man Who is the personification of this spectrum of love. Consider Him Whom angels bow down before and worship. Consider Him Who was from eternity to eternity the Alpha and Omega.

Consider His Patience

Consider His patience, for He is the God of patience and comfort. We read in 2 Thessalonians 3:5 “now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patience of Christ”. Consider His kindness, for He is kind to the unthankful and the evil. In Luke 6 we read:  “love your enemies and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the most High”.

Consider His Humility

Consider His generosity, for we read in 2 Corinthians 3:5 that: “He gave Himself a ransom for all, or He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”. Consider His humility.. “Jesus said: I am meek and lowly in heart”. and in John 13:5 we read: “Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that He was come from God, and went to God He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel and girded himself. After that He poureth water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith He was girded.”

Consider His Courtesy

Consider His courtesy. He said to Zacchaeus: “Zacchaeus make haste, and come down”, and in Luke 8 we read that He took Jairus’ daughter by the hand, and called saying,” little Maid, arise”. Consider His unselfishness. When He asked the question.. What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto Him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And great multitudes came unto Him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down His feet, and Jesus healed them all.

Consider His Grace

Consider His good temper, for He said:  “suffer little children to come, and forbid them not, and then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put His hands on them, and prayed”. Consider His guilelessness: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, Who told us in John 14:10 “Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself, but the Father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works.”

Consider His Sacrifice

Consider His sincerity: “I am the way and the truth and the life, and in John 14 He tells us: ” in my Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you”. Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling Consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession. Hebrews 3:1

Consider His Person

Consider Christ Jesus: “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. But made Himself of no reputation and took upon Himself the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men”. Philippians 2:6. Consider Jesus – for love will cover a multitude of sins.
