Thy Will Be Done

Born of God

Each member of the body of Christ has made a commitment to Him, a commitment to be a faithful follower right to the end of our earthly life. Our life’s end could be the door of death, The finish line of our terrestrial trail could be at the call of the last trump.. but none of us know the date and time that the end of our life will be, but from the moment of believing faith, we were accepted by God, through Jesus. From the first act of faith we were born again and accepted in the Beloved. From the instant we believed we were born of God – through Christ, and so we entered a covenant relationship with our Saviour.

Servant of God

As God’s children, servants and bond-slaves we should commit to loyalty of service. This service should be without reserve, without restraints, and without regret. To each servant the Lord has given gifts, talents, abilities, jobs,  for it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants, and He entrusted to them his property. Matt.25:14

Gifts and Talents

Some gifts are to be exercised in a public ministry or communal service. Most talents are fitted to the individual for a hidden life of secret service. All spiritual gifts, however, have been given with infinite care by the Spirit of God. All talents have been carefully chosen by Him to match each servant’s personal potential. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Matt.25:14. How important that the gifts and talents bestowed to each of His servants are used – used to the glory of God and not used for the promotion of Self.

All in All

When John the Baptiser ‘saw’ the Lamb of God he immediately cried: He must increase and I must decrease. John 3:30. John knew that He is everything and we are nothing, (except those who are in the Beloved). When Paul was suddenly engulfed by the great light on the road to Damascus, his immediate cry was “Lord, what would You have me to do?” Acts 9:6 – and his life became one of dedication until Christ became his all in all.

Christ’s Dedication

When our Lord walked this earth, we find Him totally dedicated to the Father’s will. I do nothing of myself, but only as my Father hath taught me John 8:28. As our Lord knelt in the garden, we find Him dedicating Himself to God’s will: Thy will not mine be done – not as I will but as Thou wilt Matt.26:39.

Sanctified to God

This is at the eve of His crucifixion. This is the time that His departure from earth is drawing close. This is the hour He is found in profound agony of spirit. This is the moment He is in deep distress of heart, and though He appeals for a way other than the cross to redeem humanity. Jesus consecrates Himself to the will of the Father, crying: not as I will but as Thou wilt. Matt.26:39

Fleeting Time

As blood-bought believers and servants of the Lord Jesus, we have the rest of our lives ahead of us, and yet we too are at the very door of our departure from earth... as for man, his days are like grass. As the flower of the field, so he flourishes, when the wind has passed over it, it is no more, and its place acknowledges it no longer. Psalm 103:15,16

He Must Increase

How important that we cry out with John, “He must increase and I must decrease“. How vital that we call out daily with Paul, “Lord, what would You have me to do?” How crucial that we echo Christ’s profound words of love – ” Thy will not mine be done.” Luke 22:42

Full Consecration

Now is the accepted time to ensure that lives are fully consecrated to the Lord. Now is the time to be sure that our lamps are trimmed and lighted. Now is the time to ensure that our lives are fully surrendered to Him.

Total Surrender

Christ was wholly dedicated to doing the will of the Father, and yet... as the final step in His life’s journey drew ever closer, He reestablished His total devotion to His Father. He willingly submitted in total surrender to the Father’s good pleasure with the words:- “Thy will not mine be done.” Luke 22:42

Willing Heart

We too in these closing days of our lives need to cry out... Your will not mine be done Lord. I am willing to seek Your will and submit my will to Yours. I am willing to receive what You give – and to give what You choose. I am willing to lack what You withhold – and to relinquish what You take. I am willing to go where You lead – or to remain where You place me. I am willing to suffer what You inflict – and do as You command.

Thy Will not Mine

I am willing to be thrown into the pit of humiliation for Your sake. I am willing to be your bond-servant unto my life’s end. I am willing to say:- Thy will not mine be done.
