What Does Revelation 20:11 Mean?

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.

Revelation 20:11(NASB)

Verse of the Day

From beginning to end the Bible gives, clear systematic teaching that man is a sinner and under the eternal wrath of God. But God in His grace formulated a perfect plan of redemption for all mankind, by sending His only begotten Son to become a Man, so that His perfect life and sacrificial death would satisfy God's righteous anger against all sin - including my sin and including yours.

Only those who believe on His death, burial and resurrection for the remission of sins are exempt from God's wrath - for Christ received the full force of God's anger against sin on our behalf at Calvary. Only those who are saved by grace through faith in His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection are no longer under God's condemnation - for Christ was punished in our place.. and in Him our redemption price was paid in full at Calvary. This is the clear systematic message of salvation in the Word of God.

Those who believe on Him are not condemned but those that do not believe are condemned already because they have not believed on God's only begotten Son.. and will one day stand before the great white throne of judgement, which is seen in Revelation 20. Those who trusted Him for salvation have already passed from death to life.. but those who rejected God's offer of salvation remain under His wrath and will one day stand before this great white throne.. They will bow before the awesome splendour of Jesus Christ - the Son of God and Son of Man, Whose presence and majesty will cause the earth and heaven to flee away.

All judgement of the saved and unsaved has been placed by God into the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ and at the end of His millennial rule on earth this great white throne of judgement will be set up in the midst of heaven.. and Christ will pass judgement on the unsaved of all ages. Those that rejected God in this life.. will have to face Him after death. They will all stand before the great white throne of God. How terrible to fall into the hands of a just and righteous God without having received salvation by grace.. through faith in His Son - Whose sacrificial death paid the price for our sins.

It is not believers who will stand before this great white throne of judgement. Their sin was judged at the cross of Christ. However the good works which they carried out in life will be judged at the judgement seat of Christ, (sometimes called the Bema seat judgement of believers), where rewards for righteous works that were done to the praise and glory of God will be given - (note - works of the flesh will be burned up as wood, hay and stubble).

Only the lost.. the unbeliever.. the unsaved will stand before the great white throne. Only the unregenerate - those that rejected His free offer of salvation and remain under God's wrath will stand before this awesome white throne in judgement.. when heaven and earth will flee from His presence - leaving the condemned sinner nowhere to hide - and all will be judged according to that which is 'written in the books...'

Let us share the good news of the glorious gospel of grace to a lost and dying world, while there is still time - so that by God's grace.. some may be plucked from the gaping jaws of eternal separation from God.. which is the recompense of all the unsaved, who are judged and condemned at this awesome great white throne - because they have not believed in the only begotten Son of God

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, Your goodness and grace towards the children of men is staggering - for we have all sinned and should all receive the wages of our sin, which is death. And yet by grace, Christ died for my sin and took the punishment on my account.. and for all who trust in His name. Thank You that by grace I will not be standing before the great white judgement throne of God.. but I pray that while there is still time, some who are living in unbelief will come to a knowledge of the truth and into a saving faith in Christ.. in Whose name we pray, AMEN.
