What Does 1 Peter 1:20 Mean?

For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you

1 Peter 1:20(NASB)

Verse of the Day

Jesus is a Man like no other member of the human race. On the one hand, He was foreknown before the creation of the world, but on the other, He was revealed at God's appointed time - and was made manifest for our sake, when He was born into His own creation to become the Saviour of the world, by means of His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection.

Jesus is the only Person Who could make the statement: before Abraham was, I AM.. for Christ is the heavenly Man Who was previously known by the Father and is eternally One with Him. He was the eternal Son even before the world was created, and yet He was not fully revealed as our Kinsman-Redeemer until that appointed time - so that He could be born into the human race as the sacrifice for our sin.

Yes, Jesus is the Word made flesh Who came to tabernacle amongst His own creation so that He could save His people from their sin - by faith in Him. As God incarnate, the Lord Jesus is the only Man Who could ever claim to be the one Way to the Father, the singular Truth in a fallen world of lies and deception and the one and only perfect Man Who was resurrected from the dead.. and in Whom is eternal Life.

It is true that He was chosen and foreordained to be the sacrifice for sin before the foundation of the world, but He was brought out into the public view and made manifest to the world in these last days. He was born into the human race and named JESUS - God is Salvation, for your sake and for mine, so that by grace through faith in Him we might be forgiven of our sins and have life everlasting.

Christ was no afterthought as a result of man's sin - He was foreknown before the world was made. God was not phased as a result of Adam's fall for Christ was the Lamb, slain from the foundation of the world. God's plan of redemption for mankind was securely in place long before God breathed into Adam's body of clay the breath of life - when man became a living being.

For 4000 years God prepared the way for His only begotten Son to be born into the world as the Propitiation for our sin and it was at the end of the dispensation of the Law (which scripture refers to as 'the last days') that Jesus was sent from heaven to earth to fulfil His Father's plans and purpose for the race of man - Whom He had formed, out of the dust of the earth.. in His own image and likeness.

Oh yes, on the one hand, Christ was foreknown before the creation of the world, but on the other hand, He was revealed at the end of time for our sake. And in Christ we have an absolute assurance in God's plan of redemption for the forgiveness of sin and life everlasting.. for He is our Life and in HIM is life everlasting. And all who place their faith and hope in Him will never perish, but have life.. His life.. eternal life - and have it more abundantly.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that You gave Your only begotten Son to be born as a baby into this fallen race of man - so that by grace through faith in Him we might be redeemed, forgiven, saved, sanctified and made one with Him, in spirit and in truth - through time and into eternity. Thank You in Jesus name, AMEN.
